Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. --Psalms 27:14 KJV

Right out of college, I moved from my small hometown in Arkansas to St. Louis and started job hunting—with no car. So I learned the bus system fast. I studied the schedules, figured out the routes and transfers, and made sure I was standing at the right stop. Then I’d get there early and wait, trusting the bus would show up and get me where I needed to go.

Have you ever had to wait in life? Wait for an answer to a question? Wait to be picked up? Wait to see your score on an exam? Perhaps you are waiting anxiously now on a word about a sick relative or waiting to hear from your doctor about test results. Often, we find ourselves waiting on God to act in our life, to intervene, to change a situation. If you are like me, waiting can be exasperating. Yet, waiting has its benefits. We gain strength and courage as we wait. Even if the buses were somewhat late, I still waited. I trusted. I had to trust.

To wait on the Lord is to trust him—to trust that His Word is true. Our past relationship reinforces our current belief. We anticipate His coming. We anticipate His power acting on our behalf. We anticipate an outcome that is for the good. This trust, this expectation, this assurance produces an internal confidence in the Believer. We are strengthened! We are emboldened!

Lean into your waiting seasons. The best is yet to come!

Prayer…

Lord, You have saved me. You have given me salvation through Your Son. Strengthen my faith through my waiting. Guide me to see Your purpose in my waiting. Help me to understand how to draw closer to You while I wait. Give me words of encouragement for others as they wait. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
